Presidents Welcome Welcome all to the Geraldton Harriers Club 2016 season and this, the first edition of Running Writing, for what promises to be another great year for the Club. The Club aims to provide the opportunity for each of you to achieve whatever goal you may have set for the year. Be it maintaining your health through an enjoyable Sunday morning stroll with that friend you don’t get to see during the week, posting a personal best over your favourite distance or achieving a qualifying time for the London Marathon, the Club has something to offer all of you.
Junior Harriers are the Club’s future and participation amongst our junior members has been excellent over recent years. The Club remains committed to these, our most enthusiastic members and is continually seeking ways to engage and develop the junior membership.
Whilst the new committee has been working hard over the off season to ensure the Club continues to build upon its successes of 2015, there are some important changes to the executive and committee since the AGM last September that you need to be advised of. President elect Jason Joyner has, for reasons not associated with the Club, recently chosen to resign from his elected position and the management committee. As elected Vice President, I have taken on the role of President for the remainder of the season and Lois Garner has stepped into the role of Vice President. I and the Club would like to take this opportunity to thank Jason for his substantial and selfless contributions to the Club whilst President. The Club made some significant advances under Jason’s guidance and I am sure you would join me in wishing him the very best.
Looking to the upcoming season, events have been scheduled to provide a good balance of city and regional locations across a range of terrains. Highlights include a brand new championship event to be run along a section of our scenic coastline, a new cross country style course that reflects the Club’s early focus on these types of events and a brand new RunFest format.
The 2016 Geraldton Harriers RunFest & Marathon shall be a Club event open to the public rather than an event run for members of the public in which Club members are able to compete. The RunFest Committee led by Lois Garner and Grant Patrick are busily finalising what should be a fantastic event on the first weekend of July. Save the date and keep an eye on the Club website, Running Writing and Facebook for updates over the coming weeks.
Finally, thank you to the committee and members that generously contribute their time to make the Club the success it is. The Club relies on volunteers and if you are able to help out through the coming season please contact any of the committee members, your efforts shall always be appreciated.

2016 Membership Fees The annual subscriptions for 2016 are: Adult (18yrs & over at first championship event) $60.00

(reduced fees for adult under 18 at first championship event) $15.00
Family (up to 4 members, additional members $20pp) $90.00
Junior (16yrs and under at first championship event) $15.00
Senior (65yrs & over at first championship event) $40.00Club Timing Band purchase ($5 refund on return) $10.00
Club Timing Band replacement $15.00
Visitor (single event only) Junior and under 18yrs $5.00
Visitor (single event only) Adult 18yrs and over $10.00Since 2015, Club Timing Bands are required for all club events. Club Bands can be retained and utilised from season to season but are not interchangeable between members; if you forget yours we can’t provide you with a temporary replacement.

2016 World Masters Games The Perth 2016 World Masters Athletics Championships will be held from 26thOctober until 6th November 2016. This is the biggest event in World Masters Athletics and Athletics WA is honoured to be hosting such a prominent event.
Athletics WA are offering a Regional Athlete Membership to allow non metropolitan ‘Masters’ to compete in the Games.
Over 120 Officials and 100 volunteers will be utilised for this event in their various roles which without them the competition would not be able to run at all. We are always truly grateful for our officials & volunteers who always assist when required.
